This serie of knives is a result of working of Pat Crawford and Bob Kasper.
Every model was meant to be combat one in the first place, but as long as these models are sold to civilians they're assigned for self-protection.

The offered serie consists of five models:
CRKT CR-6772 Small Crawford/Kasper
CRKT CR-6773 Large Crawford/Kasper
CRKT CR-6782 Small Crawford/Kasper
CRKT CR-6783 Large Crawford/Kasper
CRKT CR-6783K Large Black Crawford/Kasper

The first and the second models are plain-sharpened and differ from each other with their sizes. This means that CR-6772 is the compact version of CR-6773. An the difference of CR-6782 and CR-6783 from those two models is in wavy sharpening. CR-6773K is the same CR-6783, but with blued blade.

We are going to deal with CRKT CR-6772 Small Crawford/Kasper. The blade is made of stainless steel AUS-6M, along the lines modified clip point. It's not good for domestic uses for two reasons: this steel belongs to soft types of steel, that means that blade keeps sharpening not very long comparing to hard types; the cutting point is not very large. So the blade is made for tactical actions, so because of softness of steel you won't get the tip of the blade broken, and the cutting edge won't be crumbling.
Two-way dowel is used for opening and that provides comfortable opening for left-handers and right-handers. In the handle the axis of the blade is connected with a Torx-screw and that means you won't get any problems if play appears.

The handle consists of two main elements: plastic facing from Zytel and billets made of steel 420J2. As for grasp, the handle is more intended for straight grasp, and notch confirms that. The notch allows secure holding. Thus straight grasp in this case is comfortable for stabbing and that adds another point for tactical knife using, especially for self-defence.

Let's look closer at the lock. This model has an InterFrame lock, which is a modification of Liner Lock. Besides, blocking system LAWKS was added, which blocks a half-beam of the lock and prevents it's sliding from the blade. That's plus, because subconsciously you get less frights with making hard stabs.
The clip is made of stainless steel, blued, that lets it to merge with the handle. There's only one disadvantage, it can't be moved, Though you can take it off if you turn 3 screws back.

In conclusion I would like to mention that this knife was made more for tactical needs than for domestic purposes.
The price veries from $40 to $65.

Knife Type: clasp-knife

Benchmade 551 Griptilian represents itself as the follower of model Benchmade 550 Griptilian. Of course comparing to big brother this model has its differences, but it also has many similarities.
This model is also producted in USA and since year 2006 the knife's supplied with blade from non-rusting steel 154CM.
The Blade differs from the last model with it's type though steel is the same. It's hard to say at first sight if the type of the blade is worse or better. And if you really want to start delving into this issue you should better ask the producer, he really is the one who knows what's good and what's bad. But you shouldn't get yourself caught in an endless loop because the knife cuts really good and thrust is rather good. And thrusting a half of the blade into the wood is not a very big problem and you shouldn't worry that your hand can fly off onto the blade, the handle won't let this happen.
It seems rotundity and massiveness of the handle are the property of all Griptillian series. Really convenient and hard grasp both for lefthanders and for righthanders. Besides because of roundness of the handle you can easily rest the knife against the palm.
The clip is rather convenient but there's a defect. It isn't pressed to the handle. So there can be problems with wearing the knife in clothes of delicate cloth. And a few words concerning the grip. The clip can be shifted no problem. But if you wish you can take it away to avoid for example problems with wearing the knife in some summer pants.
The lock of AXIS is like the one that has previous model Griptilian. It's different with it's reliability, mildness of opening and closing, withstands soiling good but not perfectly. Yes, probably everyone wants it but it's a clasp-knife and there's nothing we can do: if there are
fixed details, dust is going to concentrate anyway. So you will have to scour it occasionally. The scour is rather simple: just wash it under the water stream and that's all.
Perhaps the one thing that's different from the 550th model is the presence of prong for opening
instead of hole. This is most likely the minus of the model than plus.
Yes, the blade is single-pieced without any hole. But opening with help of a hole like the one of previous version of Griptilian is nevertheless more convenient affair. Since you got big fingers for example, you don't have to worry you won't be able to open the knife and with prong people like this can fiddle around.
Like the previous model the knife is supplied in two versions: with the serrated edge and with non-serrated one. The knives with serrated edge have at least problems with sharpening which should be done carefully
and with quality of cut which demands attention, but it's the matter of taste.
In general we can say this model is rather good and convenient except prong.
The price varies from $80 to $100.

Characteristics of the knife

Blade: stainless steel 154CM
Hardness of the steel: 59 HRC
Blade Type: Spear Point
Blade Length: 95 mm
Length in opened state: 216 mm
Length in closed state: 121 mm
Blade Thickness: -
Handle Thickness: -
Sharpening: plane / serrated
Handle: Fiberglass-filled Nylon
Lock Type: Roto-Lock
Clip: Stainless steel
Knife Type: clasp-knife
Weight: 120 gr

Covert is the second in clasp-knives line of Applegate-Fairbairn.
There are three of them:
Combat is the biggest model of Applegate-Fairbairn. And this means that the knife is made more for camping than for carrying it with you everyday. And the negative factor of carrying the knife everyday is the absence of a clip.
Covert is the middle and apparently optimal among Applegate-Fairbairn. This one is going to be examined.
Mini Covert, the little brother, looks like more decorative than like solid working knife. You should buy it only in case you want to make a
collection of Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn.
The design was made by Rex Applegate himself whose engraved autograpf you can see on the blade of the knife. Also there is an autograph of W.F. Fairbairn.
This knie should be called dagger instead of knife because its blade is double-edged and because of this quality this knife is practically unusable in life. For life the main thing is cutting something, but that is the task the knife does bad. Its cutting edge is rather thick and you can't set you finger against the blade for strengthening the pressure because you can cut your finger. Good side of the knife to be mentioned is the stab, it certainly is a plus for the knife. Stab is what the knife does good, the form of the dagger is made more for this than for example blades of Bowie or other firms. The knife also does chopping good. Of course the solidness of the blade should be mentioned, you don't need to worry that the blade won't withstand the chopping. At extreme conditions you shouldn't waste your time thinking of position the blade is in.
Talking about the handle we should mention that it's handy, convenient and these qualities certainly are the plus because a hand won't jump off, the double-edged razor goes away entirely into the handle.
The knife is convenient for both right-handers and left-handers.
The clip is reversible and is made of steel. It is fixed to the handle with two screws which for some reason are longer than the screws on the other side of the handle.
The summary: the knife is good for combat, stabs. It is bad in cutting.
Suits for chopping, it's good both for right and left-handers, has convenient handle.
The price for the knife varies from 101$ to 167$.

On May 23rd the release of 7 knives of company Spyderco was made.
Among these models were:
Impala CLIPIT (the designer of this one was Ed Scott)
Spin CLIPIT
Endura Wave CLIPITS
Delica Wave CLIPITS
G-10 Cara Cara
G-10 Meadowlark
Yin Kitchen Knife
Yang Kitchen Knife

All models except last two belong to clasp-knives whereas Yin and Yang belong to kitchen knives.
From clasp-knives Spin CLIPIT should be mentioned which can be called the sequel of clasp-knives SpyderCard (they have the similar form of blade) and Cricket. But the new model is more miniature (the length of abroach knife is only 105 mm).
Also G-10 Cara Cara and G-10 Meadowlark should be mentioned because the comet shaped hole is used for opening instead of branded Spyderhole.

In design view Benchmade 550 Griptilian represents itself as a simple knife. The name "Griptilian" comes from the word Grip, intuitively it represents itself as something analogous to "Graspy pangolin" or something like that.
This model is producted in USA. Since year 2006 the knife has already been producted with the blade from non-rusting steel 154CM instead of 440C which they made from before. The blade edge gives only pleasure even if you combine tasks like shaving or chopping wood, cutting fruits or vegetables. This knife manages all this just excellent.

This type of lock is different with it's reliability, mildness of opening and closing, it withstands all kinds of soiling excellent according to the words of producer. But it was spotted that in spite of eulogistic odes of father-americans you cannot avoid soiling like in every clasp-knife anyway. For example when you carry the knife in your pocket of jeans no up-to-date locks cannot save from ubiquitous pellets and other fine-dyspersated filth that has the quality to invade into the mechanism at the inappropriate time and prevent correct opening.
Though frequency of "misfires" like that of the praised lock however is much lower comparing with the knives that don't have AXIS locks.
There's no censure to mildness of opening/closing of the lock. It really is simple and pleasant.
Rounded shape and massiveness of the handle provides convenient grasp, it is made that way to be right for a right-hander and for a left-hander.
The clip seems convenient but with deeper examination some minus can be noticed. It is not pressed to the handle but placed in a millimeter away that makes certain discomfort if you carry the knife in a pocket
of fine clothes. For example it clings to stitches and bulges from summer pants or shorts and that not always causes adequate reaction of girls.
The good one of this knife is big hole for opening that lets you open the knife even if you are gloved.
This model is available in two versions: with straight blade or with the serrated edge. The model with the serrated edge is recommended to buy if the serrated edge is going to be in use. The availability of one generally brings plenty of problems usually related to sharpening and quality of cut. Besides on this model it is too deep in our oppinion. And that causes problems with mild cutting even such serrated edge-willing things like jeans or leather. Periodically the blade stucks and resists cutting. That really is minus when you defend yourself.
The knives that come with blade from steel 440C have tendency to corrode. That's why the blade needs more caring.

Maybe used materials are not the latest fashion tends but the price of the knife is almost twice lower than other models of this producer. By classification of Benchmade this knife belongs to blue (the most budgetary) segment of knives, though it isn't hurting the quality.
The price varies from $70 to $100.
