Covert is the second in clasp-knives line of Applegate-Fairbairn.
There are three of them:
Combat is the biggest model of Applegate-Fairbairn. And this means that the knife is made more for camping than for carrying it with you everyday. And the negative factor of carrying the knife everyday is the absence of a clip.
Covert is the middle and apparently optimal among Applegate-Fairbairn. This one is going to be examined.
Mini Covert, the little brother, looks like more decorative than like solid working knife. You should buy it only in case you want to make a collection of Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn.
The design was made by Rex Applegate himself whose engraved autograpf you can see on the blade of the knife. Also there is an autograph of W.F. Fairbairn.
This knie should be called dagger instead of knife because its blade is double-edged and because of this quality this knife is practically unusable in life. For life the main thing is cutting something, but that is the task the knife does bad. Its cutting edge is rather thick and you can't set you finger against the blade for strengthening the pressure because you can cut your finger. Good side of the knife to be mentioned is the stab, it certainly is a plus for the knife. Stab is what the knife does good, the form of the dagger is made more for this than for example blades of Bowie or other firms. The knife also does chopping good. Of course the solidness of the blade should be mentioned, you don't need to worry that the blade won't withstand the chopping. At extreme conditions you shouldn't waste your time thinking of position the blade is in.
Talking about the handle we should mention that it's handy, convenient and these qualities certainly are the plus because a hand won't jump off, the double-edged razor goes away entirely into the handle.
The knife is convenient for both right-handers and left-handers.
The clip is reversible and is made of steel. It is fixed to the handle with two screws which for some reason are longer than the screws on the other side of the handle.
The summary: the knife is good for combat, stabs. It is bad in cutting.
Suits for chopping, it's good both for right and left-handers, has convenient handle.
The price for the knife varies from 101$ to 167$.
